The product I’m featuring this week is two parts: PMC / high die shaping and board book binding. They don’t have to go together, but the combination of the two processes really is impressive.

The books I show in the video, like all board books, have square spines. This type of binding involves cutting printed press sheets (only printed on one side) into 4 pagers, which are then folded and glued back to back. The double-thick signatures are then gathered and then either trimmed on a traditional cutter or PMC / high die cut. The finished product is a super smooth edged, custom shaped book!

Our facility houses several PMC / high die shaping machines that can cut sizes up to 9” x 11”. Our PMC /  high die machines can cut books that are saddle stitched, perfect bound, board books and pads. Consider adding PMC / high die shaping as the final step of your next book project.

Coordinating Colour Book Features

This week I’m focusing on ways customers can customize the appearance of their projects by incorporating company colours throughout a book project. This particular project is a plasticoil bound product guide that uses orange in both the plasticoil and Mylar tabs.

Wire-O, Cerlox, plastic combs and plasticoil are available in a range of colours that can coordinate with corporate logos and colours. Mylar tabs are a great feature because printers can print a custom colour in the tab area. We then take the sheets and apply clear Mylar to the tab area and cut the tabs to a square, rounded or angled shape. Voila! Custom tabs to go with your book project.

Yes, we do high speed bindery glue tipping! The tipping project I show in this video is a fold and tear die cut mailer that has a card tipped on the inside. To open the mailer, the end user simply bends and tears each of the end pieces off. A card with a coupon code is tipped inside.

A bindery tipping job can be simple or very creative when paired with other finishing processes like folding, die cutting or even perfect binding. Our machines are capable of tipping up to 3 cards in one pass; tipping on opposite sides of the paper; or even tipping on different panels at the same time as the video indicated!

Our die cutting and folding machines can handle full 28” x 40” sheets! The Poster Mailer featured this week unfolds to a full 28” x 40” sheet and has a die cut tear-strip. To make these Mailers, we first put the sheets through one of our die cutters to create the pull tab tear strip. Then, we put the sheets through one of our 44” x 80” folding machines to make the final foldover flap with a plow fold and line glue the mailer closed.
