What are sunken labels (or embossed position)? Labels that are “sunken” or labels in a “debossed position” are labels (of any shape) that are glued into the cover of a book at the “bottom” of a embossed “valley” which has been embossed “stamped” previously into the cover. The following pictures show various sizes and shapes of labels. If for instance the “label” is 1” x 1 ½” we emboss an area 1 1/32” x 1 17/ 32” so that we can position the label in the embossed “lower level” in the cover. We apply wet glue to the label and “mount” it to the bottom of the embossed lower level.
