End Papers

Welcome to Our World of Creative Endpapers at Specialties Graphic Finishers

At Specialties Graphic Finishers, we believe in turning every page into a canvas of creativity. Beyond the cover of a hardback case bound book lies a world of possibilities, and we’re here to redefine your expectations of endpapers.

Unveiling the Diversity of Endpapers

1. Solid Elegance

When you open a hardcover book, what meets your eyes is often solid, unprinted, white paper. This unassuming canvas is what we call an endpaper. However, what might seem ordinary holds the potential for extraordinary design. The trend of using a pretty solid color for endpapers is on the rise. Imagine lifting the cover to reveal a splash of orange, a hue distinct from the book’s color. It’s a subtle yet impactful way to add sophistication to your book.

2. Color Coordination

Explore the art of coordination by mirroring the endpaper’s color with the book wrap. If your book cover is a vibrant green, why not carry that color seamlessly onto the endpaper? This option provides a cohesive and visually pleasing experience for the reader, making each page turn a delightful journey.

3. Printed Patterns and Designs

Step into the realm of creativity by opting for printed patterns or designs on the endpaper. Break away from the monotony with intricate patterns or compelling visuals. The beauty of this option is that it allows you to diverge from the book cover’s design, introducing an element of surprise when the cover is lifted.

4. Die-Cut Designs

For books designed with die-cut covers, the endpaper becomes a key element. Without a printed endpaper, a die-cut cover would reveal a white void. Avoid the mundane and seize the opportunity to imprint a unique pattern, logo, or statement on the endpaper. It transforms a mere hole in the hardback cover into a captivating glimpse into the printed world within.

This book is distinctive for an unbelievable, six different reasons.

First, you rarely see a book with two ribbons, much less two different coloured ribbons and noticed the ribbons are different lengths.

Second, 14 different colours of foil on the cover; incredibly distinctive.

Thirdly, the endpaper is a solid brown rather than black or white.

Fourth, the elastic ribbon.  It’s attached on the outside back cover, but rather on the inside of the back cover.

Fifth, a gusset folder that is full surfaced glue to the inside back cover.

Sixth, an added saddle stitched book has been inserted to the gusset pocket.

End Paper

This book as you can see from the green covers distinctive, and that there is a brown wrapped material around the back spine in front for 2 inches which overlaps the green cloth.  It is stamped shiny gold on the spine. Secondly, there’s a book jacket.  Thirdly there’s a printed endpaper, but fourthly some of the centre sheets are coated on heavy stock.  A different adjustments in the folding were needed.

Again, a product that I’ve never seen before.  When closed it looks like a normal hardback case-bound book.  When you open the book in the front the end paper is printed.  When you open the back cover there’s a gusseted envelope which is printed.  I have never seen a printed envelope that matches the remainder of the end paper. Yes, I’ve seen numerous books with envelopes in the back some that are gusseted.  Some of them have a button and having a printed gusset envelope to match the rest of the book is something I’ve never seen before this one.

What are endpapers? An endpaper, traditionally, is the white paper inside the front and back covers of all hardback books. I said “traditionally” because today, designers can choose from almost any colour of stock for endpapers, the most common being red, blue, green, etc. Endpapers also used to be only uncoated stock. Now, we’re seeing coated and even shiny endpapers, like in the image below.

There has also been the change to using different colours of stock for the front and back endpapers.

There are also endpapers now that are full colour process printing! This opens up a lot of possibilities for patterns, logos, etc.

We have also had occasion to duplex (glue together) two different stocks so that one side of the endpaper different from the reverse side.
