MAILERS WITH GLUELESS INSERTS

We tackled this project on one of our highly specialized machines. Using this unusual machine, we applied the two inserts to the flat sheet automatically, using a drop of water instead of glue. The drop of water held the two inserts in place as the flat sheet travelled up the fold plate to be glued into a formed pocket, folded, and glued shut as a finished piece. When the water evaporated, the card became loose!

Doing this entire job automatically, and not hand inserting the two cards, saved the client time and money.

WINDOWED COURIER ENVELOPES

In past videos, I’ve shown Courier Envelopes, of which there is an exploding demand as online shopping increases. The piece featured in this week’s video is a Courier Envelope but with an added process – a clear plastic address window.

WINDOWED COURIER ENVELOPES

WINDOWED COURIER ENVELOPES

We do the entire process, from die-cutting, gluing, applying plastic tear-strips and double-sided tape to adding clear plastic address windows. We can produce Courier Envelopes in a wide range of sizes and quantities, from the hundreds to thousands.

Courier Envelopes are increasingly keeping our Brausse die cutting machines, box gluers and inline tear-strip/double stick applicators busy!

PAINT CAN LABELS

We have recently been getting more calls for short runs of Paint Can Labels, which requires creating a round opening for the can handles. We’ve put our automatic drilling machines to work!

Paint Can Labels

Paint Can Labels

Most people would assume this would be a job for our Bobst/Brausse die cutting machines, but there are many benefits of drilling labels like these over conventional die cutting.

  • Drilling labels requires no setup, which greatly reduces the cost for short runs
  • Drilling creates no spoilage!
  • Drilling doesn’t create any nicks around the hole, which results in a smoother hole
  • Drilling is much cheaper than conventional die cutting for paint can label holes

We can automatically make 1-inch, 1 1/8-inch and 1 1/4-inch holes with our drilling machines.

Paint Can Labels

Paint Can Labels

For short runs, we also have 3 automatic machines that can apply double-sided transfer Kleenstik tape. So for runs of Paint Can Labels even into the 100,000s, we’re competitive!

Perforated Windows

Perforated Windows

Perforated Windows

Perforated Windows

We are a bindery that is known for doing the unusual and offering value added services that would normally require additional suppliers. With 4 Bobst/Brausse die cutters, we are able to offer customers with folding jobs add-ons like Die Perforating. Die Perforating can be used for a range of applications from perforated tear-strip envelopes and boxes to peel-back windows (as shown below).

Perforated Windows

For a project like the one shown above, we take pre-perforated sheets (whether die-perfed in-house or supplied press-perfed), fold multiple panels and inline glue with lines or dots of glue. Then, the last two panels are folded together resulting in a piece that can be peeled open or lifted up.

Spinners

Spinners

We produce Spinners by the thousands and have been known to place orders for 1 million eyelets at a time! Every process, from die cutting and hand assembly to eyeletting on our 18 machines is all done in-house.

Spinners

Spinners

Spinners

Spinners are very customizable from the size of the piece (2 ½” in diameter up to 14” in diameter) to the materials used. Spinners can have up to 4 layers and we can even produce Spinners without eyelets! Spinners without eyelets have two main benefits: They’re easily recyclable because there’s no eyelet to remove and they’re cheaper in large quantities (over 50,000 units).

The image below shows a piece we produced that functions like a Spinner but without any eyelet. But how does it work? The process requires die cutting and very sophisticated construction on our box gluing machines. The result is an equally functional, but more easily recycled, Spinner!

Kiss Cutting

Kiss Cutting - Specialties Graphic Finishers

The service featured in this email is Kiss Cutting. The particular job I show in the video above is a sheet of Kiss Cut stickers that was bound into a children’s Christmas wish catalogue. You might be thinking, “I thought there was just one kind of sticker!” Well, there are Kiss Cut and die cut stickers. The main difference is that a Kiss Cut sticker has a backer that is larger than the sticker, whereas a die cut sticker and its backer are the same size. Kiss Cut stickers are made by adjusting the die so that while it cuts through the sticker, it only “kisses” (but doesn’t cut through) the backer.

Two benefits of Kiss Cutting are that there can be more than one sticker on each sheet and the stickers are easier to remove from the backer. The image below shows the difference between a Kiss Cut and die cut sticker.

Kiss Cutting - Specialties Graphic Finishers

This particular Kiss Cutting job was 25 stickers on 5.2 million sheets … that’s a lot of stickers! We can do much smaller jobs and jobs in the millions of sheets. Each of these Kiss Cut stickers is about the size of a nickel and are in various positions all over an 8.5” x 11” sheet.  We have 4 – 40” Bobst/Brausse die cutters (one that is up to 36” x 50”!) that can handle a range of jobs.

As you can see in the image above, Kiss Cutting was just a part of the job; we also die cut the individual sheets. One of the advantages of working with us is range of services we offer and our capacity. Not only do we offer die cutting services, but also binding, foil stamping, embossing and gilding … all value-added services!

Popup Stands

Popup Stands

You’ve probably seen a Popup Stand on a restaurant table or at a checkout counter. We produce Popup Stands completely automatically! You’re not limited by size, since our machines can handle a range of sizes from 2” x 2” up to 12” x 14”. Small Popup Stands require lighter stocks (6pt to 10pt), while large Popup Stands require heavier stock (12pt to 14pt)

Popup Stands

Popup Stands

Popup Stands are shipped flat to the user and are very durable. To place on a table or counter, the user simply holds both sides and pushes down to lock the base. Standup Folders can be re-flattened instantly for storage. Some Popup Stand designs can be mailed without an envelope.

Popup Stands are relatively cost-effective compared to plastic and metal stands. The patent for this piece is expired and the name is not trademarked.

Diecut Pop-out Mailer

Diecut Pop-out Mailer

This eye catching mailer has a Diecut Pop-out and two folded panels. If your client is looking for a way to make their printed mailer more interesting, this is a great option! When the carrier is opened, the diecut image of a digital camera “lifts” off the carrier. Instead of simply printing the image, adding a pop-out feature like this gets a lot more attention.

The pop-out portion was first diecut and then tipped (glued) onto the carrier, which was first diecut, diecreased and then plow/buckle folded. This run was a few thousand, but we can produce runs like these in much higher quantities. Stock weights for a project like this should be between 8pt to 12pt.

In the following images, you can see how the carrier has two additional panels that fold from the left and right side. With the addition of an automatically applied inline clip/wafer seal, this folded piece can be mailed. A mailer like this communicates a lot of information while keeping the customer’s attention.

TWIRL TOP BOX

TWIRL TOP BOX

The unique boxes featured in this email are called Twirl Top Boxes. While we did not produce this particular box, we can produce a range of sizes, from tiny to very large. The largest sheet we can diecut on our 4 – 40” automatic diecutters is 30” x 56”. Our jobs can also be produced quickly, with our diecutters producing 7,000 sheets per hour.

TWIRL TOP BOX

TWIRL TOP BOX

After diecutting a Twirl Top Box, the diecut paper is then folded and glued in one pass automatically on one of our 5 box gluers. Depending on the size of the box, the stock weight needs to be up to 12pt. The smaller Twirl Top Box featured is a lighter stock and the larger box is a much heavier stock.

TWIRL TOP BOX

To open the box, the user simply pushes the box from both sides and the box pops into shape automatically! The Hymes (lock-bottom) bottom is sturdy because it is glued and can be re-flattened if desired. These boxes can be shipped flat, saving on shipping and can then be filled afterwards by the client.

DIECUT “TWIST” BOX

DIECUT “TWIST” BOX

DIECUT “TWIST” BOX

Did you know we make collapsible boxes? We are known more for our casewrapped/lithowrapped boxes, but we also produce diecut and glued boxes. The box featured in this video was printed on a standard 28” x 40” 10pt coated stock. We then diecut and diecreased the sheets multiple-up on one of our 4 40” Bobst/Brausse diecutters. If we needed to diecut larger sheet sizes, we can diecut sheets up to 30” x 56” on our Bobst! We can produce smaller runs of about 2,000 up to huge runs of 250,000.

DIECUT “TWIST” BOX

The sheets for this job then passed through one of our 5 box gluers, each of which can run this job at thousands per hour. The box gluers added a line of hotmelt glue and then a simple double fold and the box is ready! This piece was shipped flat to the client for the insertion of the final product. The customer simply squeezes the box, it pops open easy and then “locks” shut by twisting the ends.
