Book Staining

What is Book Staining? It’s simply the application of stain or paint to the trimmed edges of bound books. We apply the paint using sponges, brushes or spray, depending on various factors like the type of stock used. In perfecting the Book Staining process, we overcame several difficulties by doing extensive experimentation and testing. We are experts on knowing what kinds of paint to use depending on whether the stock is coated or uncoated, very thin or somewhat thick, has printing (e.g. 4 colour process) that bleeds to the edges, etc.

Book Staining

We have scores of paint colours available. A particularly eye catching value-added feature we offer is to paint each of the three book edges a different colour! Not only do the colours not bleed the other edges, we make the corners meet perfectly.

In my frequent visits to book and stationery stores, I’m seeing more stained books as publishers are looking for more ways to make their books stand out. I recently visited Japan and China and saw a lot of stained books. Book Staining is a new feature that is becoming increasing popular around the world!
